A recent discovery I'd like to share with everyone:
If you use Windows Media Player as much as I do, you're probably frustrated when you go to enqueue a filetype that you know will play but lacks the available option in the context menu. MP3, AVI and so forth are already meant to be added to the queue with a simple
Right-click->
"Add to Windows Media Player list", but additional types, such as OGG Vorbis, Matroska audio/video, MP4, etc.--if the filetype was added after upgrading your Windows Media Player--must have the option added manually. Here's how:
Every file has both an
extension and a
filetype, which are defined in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. You're probably more familiar with the extension; filename.ogg has the extension ".ogg", etc. Scroll down to
.ogg in the list and note the three values associated with it. The first is labeled "(Default)" and contains as data the filetype (in my case, "ogg_auto_file"). Sometimes the filetype is non-intuitive;
.mkv's filetype in my case is "CCCP.Matroska.1".
Scroll down the list of keys and select the filetype. Here we need to add a key:
shellex/ContextMenuHandlers/WMPAddToPlaylist.
Change the
(Default) data entry to
{F1B9284F-E9DC-4e68-9D7E-42362A59F0FD}.
To remove the "Add to Now Playing" option from a filetype's context menu, simply delete the
WMPAddToPlaylist key.
